Despite the exciting new designs of jewelry that are being churned out everyday by jewelers, vintage ornaments hold a special place in people’s hearts. Almost everyone has a family heirloom or two tucked away somewhere—beautiful bracelets, antique brooches, quaint necklaces and so on. There are specialty stores that cater to buyers of vintage jewelry exclusively. How does one go about selecting ancient brooches while contemplating a purchase? Never mind if the antique brooch you like bears a few scratches as these can be easily fixed by the jewelry store itself. However, do not pick ones with chips, cracks or missing stones as they are difficult to repair and hence, useless. Discoloured brooches should also be avoided as they too cannot be easily repaired.
